Welcome to Manitoba Seniors Today. A few years after I retired I started a new hobby – videography. According to YouTube, where most of my personal videos have been shared, that was way back in 2018. That particular YouTube site was dedicated to documenting parts of my life as a baby boomer in Winnipeg, hence the name of the site “A Baby Boomer in Winnipeg.” Feel free to check that site out at this link. That was fun but one does eventually run out of ideas to videotape, places to visit and content to share.
Shortly after starting that YouTube site I joined a volunteer group at Shaw Communications on Scurfield Boulevard in Winnipeg. From all walks of life those volunteers were learning how to make a TV program to be broadcast on Shaw’s local access channel. I was there because myself and a group of Toastmasters were hoping to make a TV program focused on the Toastmasters experience in Winnipeg. Shaw generously provided in studio training for TV production – scripting, recording, lighting, audio and editing. I loved it! We actually created a 3 minute video with the volunteer group present. Then the pandemic hit. As a result we were no longer allowed to meet in the studio. Shaw provided some online training that allowed a group of us to put together our pilot episode. Sadly, it was never published on Shaw TV mostly because the restrictions surrounding Covid response. If you would like to see a copy of that pilot episode follow this link to my personal YouTube site.
Fast forward to this year. By now Rogers has taken over Shaw. Rogers is now promoting the community access aspect of their programming. We are welcomed to present proposals for a program. Thinking I would like to give back to my senior community, of which I am one, I propose “Manitoba Seniors Today,” a program about senior issues, events, facilities, etc. Please stay tuned as I develop the YouTube channel, Facebook page, and of course that valuable Rogers TV program.
